When God Promises to Fill Your Treasury

    Listen to this post

Sometimes, the Lord speaks a word so clearly that you have to hold onto it with both hands, even when common sense is telling you to let go. I was thinking back on a time like that recently—a moment where a specific scripture became a literal lifeline for my family.

We owned a beautiful Arabian horse back then. She was a champion show horse, a truly magnificent creature, but she’d had a bit of a rough go. She had run into a fence post and injured her leg quite badly. My children’s father put a poultice on the wound, and we did what we always do: we gathered around and prayed for a miracle. We watched her heal, but the time eventually came when we knew we had to sell her.

We had a deep financial need at the time. We needed enough to get us on the road and settled into our next chapter. I remember leaning into the Lord, asking for guidance, and He gave me a promise from the Word. I can’t recall the exact chapter and verse right this second, but the message was etched into my heart: *He was going to fill our treasuries.*

When the potential buyer finally arrived, he started doing what people do—he began to dicker. He wanted to haggle and bring the price down. I felt a surge of conviction rise up inside me. I don’t quite remember if I used sign language or if I scribbled a frantic note to the kids' dad, but I made sure he got the message crystal clear: "Don’t! Don't you dare come down on that price!"

I knew what the Lord had told me. He said He was going to fill our treasuries, and I knew that meant we weren't supposed to compromise. I didn't want to be difficult; I just wanted to be obedient.

In the end, we sold her for exactly what we were asking. Even at that price, the buyer was getting a wonderful deal for a horse of her caliber, but for us, it was the exact provision we needed. That sale provided the means for us to get on the road and move to the next place God had for us.

Looking back, it was a lesson in trust. God answered our need perfectly, but we had to be willing to let go of her when He said it was time, and we had to be bold enough to stand on His promise while the deal was being made. When He promises to fill your treasury, He means it—you just have to listen.
