Faith in the Small Things: Lessons from the Kitchen

    Listen to this post

The mission field is not always a distant land or a grand stage; sometimes, it is as close as the kitchen stove where you are stirring a pot of tuna casserole.

I was reflecting recently on a simple afternoon spent in the kitchen, mixing rice, tuna, and grated cheese. It might seem like an ordinary, everyday task, but to me, that meal was a beautiful reminder of a much bigger truth. In that moment, I felt so clearly that it was God providing for us. We often speak about being "on the mission field" as if it’s a specific title or a place you must travel to, but the reality is that you are on the mission field right where you are.

Whether I am serving as an inspirational composer leading worship from my piano bench or simply preparing a meal for a friend, God is present. He protects and provides for His children in every circumstance. That humble casserole was a lesson for me—one of those small things that points to the massive, miraculous ways He has sustained me over seventy years.

Throughout my life and my work with Platforms of Praise, I have learned that if I take something to Him in prayer, He answers. Now, I will be the first to tell you that it is usually on His timeline, not mine. Sometimes the wait feels incredibly long, and you have to hold onto your faith with both hands. But looking back at the tapestry of my life, I see His faithfulness woven through every thread.

    A Moment of Reflection

God’s provision doesn't always come in the form of a grand miracle; often, it shows up in the "small" things that fill our daily lives. If you are in a season of waiting, take heart. From the big prayers that change your life’s course to the simple provision of a hot meal, He is faithful to answer in His perfect time.
