The Lord has a way of turning our wanderings into wonders. I was sitting at my table one bright, biting cold morning in British Columbia, looking out over a 65-mile lake that had frozen solid.
On this day, I was alone in our small cabin while my husband navigated the treacherous, pothole-filled gravel road into Fort St. James for supplies. I had my Bible open, soaking in the quiet, when I saw something unexpected: tiny figures skating across the ice toward our home.
Soon, a knock came at the door. I opened it to find a group of five or six teenage boys. "How come you guys aren't in school?" I asked, a bit sternly. They squirmed and admitted they were skipping. I didn’t like that one bit, but before I could scold them further, they told me why they had stopped at my house.
While skating, they seen something miraculous—rays like a rainbow radiating over our cabin and the face of Jesus. They were shaken and curious.
I invited them in, and there at my table, we talked about the love of God. These boys had stepped off the path of their daily responsibilities, but God had a bigger idea. He used that moment to reveal Himself.
By the time they left, all but one had accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
During our eight years as missionaries in the Canadian wilderness, living without running water or electricity, I didn't always have a full piano. I played a tiny two-octave keyboard, composing Western-swing gospel songs that fit the "down-home" culture around us.
It was a life of sacrifice, but moments like that morning on the ice reminded me that God’s glory isn’t limited by our circumstances. He builds his own Platforms of Praise in the most remote corners of the world.
As an inspirational composer, I often look back on those "rays of glory" over the cabin. It reminds me that even when we are off-track, God is actively calling us home to Him.
Reflection: Is there a "frozen" area of your life where you feel stuck or off-course? Look up today—the Lord may be using this very moment to reveal His face and His love to you in a way you never expected.
